Next day barge arrives at hicktown Kveevel.
Greeted by sweaty Englishman Attache called Sanders.
Locals try to steal some stuff. Robin shoots one.
Fancy dinner served that evening in honour of party's presence. Tim & Dunlow served "the best cuts" (gashant eyeball, live gashant lungworms, ruumet breehr semen, candied insects, and mosquito kebabs). Rest of gashant's body eagerly consumed by others.
During meal Sanders tells party of troublesome Fenian O'Connell who causes much mischief around town. And a prospector (out of Austria or Hungary) looking for oil.
It turns out, that the gashant for dinner belonged to party. Guards claim the Fenian stole and butchered it. However, they will be whipped in morning for negligence.
Nate, glib with the Hill Martian tongue, gives conflicting and stupid orders to remaining Canal Martian guards (guarding the party's gashants). They interpret his orders as giving them the go ahead to chop off and eat a gashant's tail. Which they do.
Walter and Verdud visit local library and get a map of where party is headed. Need to cross hills to get to an empty canal, then follow canal to ruined town Alba Lacus .
Party sets out into the hills lead by guide Leergar:
Encounter the Gin tribe who invite party for visit. Tribe travels in large gypsy-type caravans.
Leergar is of the Ousghian tribe, who does not get on well with the Gin tribe. Leergar is thus held captive by them. He will be returned to party when they leave.
Party gifts smoking jacket, pith helmet, fez, box of cigars and a bottle of Tanqueray gin to the tribe leader. This impresses him somewhat.
