We are off again up to orc pass [ Klibwards of Sea Rune ]. The climb up sucks. We should take a cart - useless group.
This time there is another MAAAAAGGGGGEEE ooooowwww. She is carrying a stupid box thing around her neck. Those mages are so caught up with their little gizmo's and do-dads. Apparently the box thing makes moving etchings back at some Wizards Guild [ Zibrost ]. You point the box thing at the barren scenery and the soft mages can see what is happening in their soft chairs while WE face the risk!
One GREAT thing about the box thing is that when it is dark you press a button and a heavy dose of REAL's light beams out. You might (correctly) think I would dislike this, however, point the light toward Connie and you see her pasty, gangly body for a split second. IMAG's darkness fades away. You should hear Connie yelp when this happens! Fantastic...
The first day was OK. Saw some gnolls eating a horse. As our group are a pack of whelps we decided to leave them alone.
We sidled around after I decided to warn an approaching patrol of Shield Maidens. As we were further up the pass, we heard a battle and it seemed that the Shield Maidens had come off second-best to the gnolls; who are now dining in fine equine style.
We continued up the dreary pass until nightfall.
Throughout the night, there was a great deal of activity. orcs, gnolls, hideous red-eyed things with backward-bending legs. It seems that these monsters can move around the difficult terrain with ease. They can also home in on our pathetic hiding easily.
After a few fights with orcs and the bendly-leg things, we had to break camp and run off into the night. There was a wagon that was controlling the proceedings and it kept getting close to us.
The damn wagon rider kept calling out to the "Malechai Priest". Our group is slow, noisy and useless so the writing is on the wall...
We decided to run up a side path. Whoops, they followed us straight up there. Then we were surrounded by orcs, red-eyed creatures and the wagon was near.
I was invited to talk and decided that this was a good idea. Turned out that it was a fantastic idea! The most wretched Malechai preist that I have ever seen was controlling the orcs. Good news - hate to say it. Our party was now safe.
The priest dispensed with the mage with my assistance and we were cleared of that task. The moving images from the magical box should be interesting from our main temple. Likewise, the thought of sending a few orcs back with the 'get home instantly now' ring. The mages should haaaaattteee that.
We were then escorted over the saddle to Iron City. The Malechai temple there was suitably put-out by our arrival and made us as unwelcome as possible.
Connie posed us a problem. IMAG are the sworn enemy of us. So, a rather horrible service was performed - documented elsewhere - and a Heart Geas was placed upon Connie under my control. This was the only way that she would survive.
We were then sent out again to kick some gnoll butt. We were escorted by a Priest and set out from the saddle into the mountain wilderness. Very soon, we saw a party of gnolls and hatched a cunning plan:
We walked directly up to them. As soon as we were in range of our most powerful spell (sleep) we attacked. I hated the fight, but a few spells and backstabs later, we had them slaughted.
We travelled back to look for the priest, only to find his bits and pieces strewn about. Ooops, perhaps a gnoll got away? Hated that priest anyway...
Our party was destined for a night out under the dismal stars. Fortunately, Connie decided that perfect safety was not for her and she made attempt her escape. She might just have succeeded, except for the fact she was useless. Two assassins caught her up soon enough. She had discarded the Heart Geas. Hate her for that. Our senior priests would have sorted that out. They never got a chance as AGAIN Connie tried her escape.
This time Ron and I found her pathetic white body and I performed the ultimate escape on Connie. Malechai hates her for her soul.
The decimated group limped back to Iron City to reform and regroup.
